Comprehensive Programs and Services

A Sound Beginning provides speech and language therapy for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and children.  We are uniquely qualified to provide the diagnosis and treatment of articulation disorders which involves the clarity of a child’s speech sounds. We also diagnose and treat language disorders in young children with the intention of helping children to gain the skills they need to be successful in kindergarten. If your child is talking but, is difficult to understand, hasn’t started talking yet, or is somewhere in between, we will help you to have a clear picture of your child’s skills and the areas where support is needed.  We will develop a treatment plan to help your child gain those skills and work with you to be sure you feel confident helping your child at home.

Some children come to A Sound Beginning already receiving support at school or through a county program. In these cases, parents are interested in supplementing the services they are receiving in school. Our therapists can provide individual and small group intensive therapy, as well as parent support that they may not receive elsewhere. With parents actively involved in our sessions, they can learn how to help their child at home.

Children with hearing loss, first receive a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, and their parents and/or caregivers receive parent education sessions to learn about hearing, hearing loss, communication mode options and the most current technology available to their child.  If their parents choose, their baby can be fit for hearing aids and begin Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) therapy.    They can also take advantage of our Baby Beats music class, and as they become two and three years old, they can participate in our preschool language groups. When appropriate, we refer children to our local cochlear implant teams for evaluation.

A Sound Beginning also provides comprehensive services to children with language impairments secondary to the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.  We work with these children both in individual sessions and small groups to target social skills with a peer.  We provide opportunities for parent education as well as participation within individual sessions.  When appropriate, A Sound Beginning therapists are able to use their experience and expertise to evaluate and recommend Alternative and Augmentative Communication Devices (AAC) for children.  We then incorporate these devices into therapeutic sessions for the child and parents to learn to use functionally with each other.

Each child with a speech and language delay or disorder is unique, and the therapists at A Sound Beginning will evaluate and create an effective treatment plan to meet their needs!
