Articulation Therapy

We help children pronounce sounds correctly so they can be easily understood. Through fun, personalized activities, we guide each child in building clear speech while working closely with parents to provide strategies and practice they can do at home between sessions, reinforcing progress and boosting confidence in everyday communication.

Language Therapy

We support children in understanding and using language effectively. Through engaging, individualized activities, we help children improve both their receptive language (understanding words and instructions) and expressive language (sharing thoughts, ideas, and feelings). Parents are an essential part of the process, and we provide practical strategies to reinforce language skills at home, helping children make steady progress every day.

Apraxia of Speech

We work with children who have difficulty planning and coordinating the movements needed for speech. Through structured and playful activities, we help them practice the precise sounds and sequences of words, building clarity and confidence in speaking.

Listening and Spoken Language Therapy (LSL)

Teaching deaf and hard of hearing children to listen and speak.

We work with children who have hearing loss to develop their listening and spoken language skills. Our clinic is the only one in Maryland with two certified Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) specialists, providing expert, individualized care. Using specialized strategies and motivating activities, we help children learn to hear, understand, and use spoken language confidently. Parents play a key role in the process, and we provide guidance and practice techniques to reinforce learning at home, helping children communicate successfully in everyday life.

Children who are enrolled in LSL services at A Sound Beginning have parents who learn how to talk with them to develop language skills, read to them to initiate early literacy skills and play with them build understanding and use of spoken language. Autism Spectrum Disorder

Individual or small group sessions focused on language skills and social pragmatic skills for those with social communication differences.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person communicates, interacts socially, and behaves. It is called a "spectrum" because it includes a wide range of strengths and challenges that vary from person to person. Early diagnosis and intervention can significantly improve outcomes in communication, learning, and social skills.

Small group sessions that build social pragmatics skills, conversation skills, and increased self-awareness through fun, structured peer-based activities and games.

🧸 Play-Based Social Group for Preschoolers

Engaging, play-based groups designed to teach young children foundational social skills like sharing, turn-taking, and following routines in a supportive setting.

We encourage parental involvement and collaboration in our sessions. We provide practical, individualized guidance for parents to support their child’s communication, behavior, and development at home and in everyday routines.

Baby Beats Classes

Music-based sessions for early language development.

Research has shown that using music with young children provides a multi-sensory experience to assist with language development. Children who are deaf or hard of hearing and use hearing technology can learn to follow the beat and enjoy music along with their hearing peers. This class engages very young children from 4 months through 18 months in fun and meaningful listening and language experiences with their caregivers and other children. Preschool Language Groups

Small group activities building language skills.

Language groups are designed to provide opportunities for children to learn new vocabulary and to increase their language skills within fun activities with peers. The groups provide social opportunities to use new skills with peers. Children are supported by professionals who can facilitate language growth and exploration.
